Last night an estimated 200 people showed up at the the Division of Wildlife Public meeting in Glenwood Springs to support the public shooting range at the State Wildlife Area at Lake Christine in Basalt, Colorado.
Last October, at a public DOW meeting in Carbondale, a few Basalt residents voiced concern with the noise created by the range. The purpose of last night's meeting was to continue that conversation and allow public input.
Supporters of the range sited several reasons that the public shooting range is an important asset:
- Promote safe gun handling
- Keep people from shooting in a safe place and off of public lands
- Shooting sports encourage family time and is a good student activity
- The range supports our hunting heritage and conservation dollars
